The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is a leading professional organization dedicated to advancing the field of medical informatics, connecting a diverse community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and policymakers. With a mission to improve healthcare through the innovative use of information and technology, AMIA provides education, advocacy, and collaboration opportunities to empower its members and enhance their impact on the health ecosystem.

Challenge

Prior to our engagement, AMIA was facing significant challenges in its data management practices, including siloed data distributed across numerous systems supporting various functions and departments. Staff had limited awareness of available data, and inconsistencies in data quality led to low confidence in its accuracy.

The absence of integration and automation between systems impeded scalability, while valuable data from member interactions, such as telephone and email sentiment, remained underutilized. These challenges constrained AMIA’s ability to harness data for strategic decision-making, personalized member engagement, and improved operational efficiency.

LefeWare Solutions Added Value

We collaborated with AMIA to develop a strategic roadmap aimed at transforming its fragmented data landscape into an integrated and agile ecosystem. This included an in-depth assessment of AMIA’s existing systems, such as Salesforce Fonteva AMS and associated platforms, to identify pain points related to data silos, hygiene, and awareness. To address these challenges, we designed a phased implementation plan focused on data integration, governance, and training. A key initiative was creating a centralized data lake to consolidate structured and unstructured data, enabling more comprehensive member insights and operational efficiencies. Additionally, we outlined strategies to improve data cleanliness and foster staff confidence through robust governance policies and training programs.
Cloud data management services

Our recommendations also emphasized leveraging predictive analytics to enhance member engagement and retention. This included utilizing AI-driven tools to analyze membership trends and behavior, enabling AMIA to personalize interactions and tailor product offerings. We facilitated the integration of underutilized data sources, like telephony and email sentiment, to provide a more complete picture of member needs. By addressing these foundational issues, we helped AMIA position itself to scale its systems and fully capitalize on its data assets, ensuring a more data-driven and member-focused future.
